Uriah Heep is a true rock band through and through. With their huge success earning them gold records on both sides of the Atlantic they have also experienced deep tragedy with the electrocution and later death (caused by a drugs overdose) of a member. The bands history is an exciting true rock n' roll story of 30 years in the business. Uriah Heep have a loyal Kerrang fan base and they are probably best thought of for their very 'eavy 70's sound and style. Their success peaked between 1971-1976 and 1982-1985 and they still continue to produce and play excellent music.... Uriah Heep were formed in London 1970 by Mick Box David Byron Ken Hensley and Paul Newton and were originally called Spice. They released their debut album 'Very 'eavy very 'umble'. Their fourth album 'Demons and Wizards' had outstanding success with hits such as 'The Wizard' and 'Easy Livin'. Tragedy hit the band in 1974 when Gary Thain was near-fatally electrocuted leaving the band in limbo as he was too ill to tour. Gary Thain left the band in 1975 an ill man and died in 1976 from a drugs overdose. A talented musician called John Wetton was drafted in and the band produced another top 10 hit. The band stepped out of the lime light until 1982 when they released the album ABOMINOG which went to the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Since then the band became the first ever heavy rock act to play in the USSR.
