Sid 6.7 (Russell Crowe), a virtual composite of over 200 real-life killers, breaks out of cyperspace and goes on a real world rampage, proving practically unstoppable due to his uncanny knack of regenerating himself at will. The only man capable of taking a stand against Sid's destructive genius is imprisoned ex-cop Parker Barnes (Denzel Washington), so the authorities swallow their pride and offer him a pardon on condition that he accept the task of deactivating Sid and saving the city.
