We Are Together is a multi-award winning documentary film that tells the story of an amazing group of children. All orphaned as a result of the AIDS crisis their home Agape is their last refuge and their last hope for a slightly better start in life. Young student Paul Taylor lived with them during his gap year and gradually this film came out of their day-to-day lives. However although incredibly moving and at times almost unbearably sad it is ultimately a story of life hope triumph and music - because music and singing is the way that these wonderful children best... express themselves and when they come most alive. The film went on to win major awards at almost every major film festival around the world and when it was released in March 2008 it was acclaimed as one of the best documentaries to have been seen in years. Award-winning documentary about the children's choir of South Africa's Agape Child Care Centre. Told largely from the perspective of 12-year-old Slindile Moya, one of nine siblings who lost their parents to AIDS, the film focuses on Slindile's family, including an older brother who lives at home and has the HIV virus, as well as other residents of the orphanage who are members of the choir. The Agape Child Care Centre was founded by Zodwa Mqadi ten years ago, to provide a home and education for orphaned children. To try and raise much-needed funds for the orphanage and expand its capacity, Zodwa, known as 'Grandma' to the children, decides to take the music of the Agape's extraordinary a capella choir to the wider world. Overcoming many obstacles, including a cancelled trip to Great Britain, a devastating fire and a family tragedy, Grandma and her choir achieve their dream, recording a CD with the help of South African pop star Zwai Bala, and travelling to New York to perform with Paul Simon and Alicia Keys.
