The programme is centred around dad Jim (Ricky Tomlinson), mum Barbara (Sue Johnston), daughter Denise (Caroline Aherne), son Antony (Ralf Little), nana Norma (Liz Smith) and Denise's partner Dave (Craig Cash) - a laid-back family who depend on state benefits as their source of income. The family spend most of their time gathered in the living room and sharing every-day conversations, often with comical results.
