Robert Wagner, John Lund and Debra Paget star in this epic mid-1950s' frontier Western. Based on real historical events, the film tells the story of a peace mission made by the US Cavalry to the Cheyenne Indians in 1870s' Wyoming. Land surveyor Josh Tanner (Wagner), who is responsible for orchestrating the resettlement, is sympathetic to the cause of the Indians, but he inadvertently places the whole mission under threat by falling for the chief's daughter Appearing Day (Paget) - who is already engaged to one of the tribesmen (Hugh O'Brian).
