The events of September 11 left an indelible mark on most Americans, and certainly on those in the New York City area. Yet as fresh as the images seem, it's easy to forget the actual grit, sacrifice, and uncertainty of that day. Director Oliver Stone captures the essence of 9/11 by focusing on the true story of two Port Authority Police Department officers who were trapped beneath the wreckage of the fallen World Trade Center.

Survival drama set in the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Centre bombings in 2001, based on the testimony of John McLoughlin and William J. Jimeno; two of the last people to escape the wreckage alive. The most famous survival tale from America's biggest terrorist attack is here dramatised and given the Oliver Stone treatment. Trapped in the carnage following the attack, unsure of what exactly has occurred, two Port Authority Police officers (Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena) cling to life and the hope that someone will rescue them. Meanwhile their families and the NY fire department race to find them before it's too late.
