Rainer Werner Fassbinder had been making feature films for three years and already amassed a filmography that would satisfy most careers when he decided to take on a bigger challenge. Teaming up with West German television channel WDR, he conceived of Eight Hours Don t Make a Day, a series that would extend to five feature-length episodes to be broadcast at monthly intervals. Centring on the Krüger family, as well as their lovers, in-laws, friends and co-workers, the series takes a sometimes comic, sometimes dramatic look at domestic relationships and labour relationships, with particular focus on skilled worker Jochen (Gottfried John, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Goldeneye) and his new girlfriend, Marion (Hanna Schygulla, The Marriage of Maria Braun). Reminiscent of working-class soap operas such as Coronation Street and the family-based sitcoms of Carla Lane, Eight Hours Don t Make a Day has been a one of the more difficult to find entries of Fassbinder s extraordinarily prolific output, but is now presented here in full and newly restored by the Fassbinder Foundation. LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS: Brand new restoration of all five episodes by the Fassbinder Foundation High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations Original German mono soundtracks Optional English subtitles Fassbinder, a feature-length 2015 documentary on the director featuring interviews with Margit Carstensen, Irm Hermann, Hanna Schygulla, Volker Schlöndorff and others Brand-new retrospective featurette on Eight Hours Don t Make a Day, featuring interviews with Schygulla, Hermann, Wolfgang Schenck, Hans Hirschmüller and others, and directed by Juliane Lorenz, head of the Fassbinder Foundation 60-page booklet featuring new writing on the film by David Jenkins and a new interview with Juliane Lorenz, plus archival essays by Manuel Alvarado and Christian Braad Thomsen

The Worst Witch is a fantastic and ambitious re-imagining of the much loved Jill Murphy books about Mildred Hubble, who is catapulted quite literally head first into Miss Cackle s Academy For Witches. Mildred, who doesn t come from a family of witches, is enjoying a normal day when a witch called Maud Spellbody lands on her apartment balcony on her way to the selection day at Cackle s Academy. Persuaded by Maud to go along too, Mildred is introduced to a whole new world of magic and her life is changed forever. Although she tries her best, Mildred's lack of magical knowledge means that she is constantly getting things wrong, and the series follows her adventures as she strives not to be The Worst Witch. Full of flying, magic and plenty of laughs, the show brings Jill Murphy s books to life for a contemporary audience.
The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle suffers from a problem common among live-action movies that are based on beloved cartoon characters--the humans are never as flexible, unpredictable, or just plain goofy as their animated counterparts. In this blend of animation and live action, Rocky and Bullwinkle remain animated characters (trapped in our reality), while Boris and Natasha (Jason Alexander and Rene Russo), along with their boss, Fearless Leader (Robert De Niro), are transformed from cartoons to human reproductions when they escape from rerun land. They've come to our world to take it over; the FBI springs Rocky and Bullwinkle from the second dimension to stop them. But the writing in Kenneth Lonergan's script lacks the throw-away flair of the jokes that characterised Jay Ward's much-beloved animated series of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Part of the problem is that Russo, Alexander and De Niro are so obviously working at acting cartoonish, instead of simply being cartoons. And part is that the script rarely comes up with the kind of wonderful wordplay in which Ward specialised. The moose, as usual, gets all the best lines, but they're too few and far between to salvage this underachieving summer film. --Marshall Fine, Amazon.com
A True Slasher Classic is remastered in 2K for Blu-ray!!!! By 1984, many fear-fans were probably under the impression that the slasher genre had run out of surprises. However, MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE indicates that nothing could be further from the truth. Unlike so many of its contemporaries, this positively sleazy, and sanguine-stained, sickie features an older antagonist in the seriously psychotic Evelyn (Anna Chappell) - an elderly and absolutely insane off-road hotel owner that might well give Norman Bates some sleepless nights. When Evelyn is not taking a sickle to the faces of those stupid enough to rent a room at her one-star establishment, she is planting poisonous snakes under their beds or hiding in an underground bunker that gives her plenty of time to plan her next bout of shockingly brutal slaughter. One of the most maniacal of all the 80s slasher pictures, the seriously sinister MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE has been in high-demand from horror fans for a Blu-Ray appraisal. So it is, then, that 88 Films offers this underrated and unfairly under-seen bout of bloody brilliance in a worldwide HD exclusive bow. Sit back and prepare for the plasma to flow...

Harry Worth forged an award-winning stage and screen persona as a bumbling fusspot out of sync with a fast-changing society. After many years on the variety circuit, his first TV series, The Trouble with Harry (1960), cast him as a would-be novelist failing to make any sense of the world around him. But his second show Here's Harry (1960-65), and a writing team led by Vince Powell and Harry Driver (Love Thy Neighbour, Bless This House), went back to basics to cast an indelible mould and cement his popularity. In each episode Worth is pitted against figures of petty authority such as customs officers, railway staff, doctors, lawyers or policemen, who are increasingly exasperated by his unfathomable babbling. His amiable but bewildered persona paved the way for the equally hapless Frank Spencer (Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em), and an altogether angrier Victor Meldrew (One Foot in the Grave). Of 60 episodes broadcast, only ten from 1961 have been recovered from the BBC archives, with story lines ranging from comical attempts to book a holiday, celebrate a birthday or arrange an overdraft, to the accidental theft of a policeman's bicycle. The supporting cast includes character actors and sitcom stalwarts Gerald Anderson, Deryck Guyler, Reginald Marsh, Vi Stevens, Pat Wallworth, Leonard Williams and Jack Woolgar. Gentle, genial comedy gold from the original meddlesome muddler.
Feature length thriller from the writer of Shameless and starring Pete Postlethwaite and Jamie Draven. Whilst the plot centers around a policeman, this is not a police story. In fact John McKeown emphatically dislikes being a policeman. Two teenage boys discover a murdered man at a breakers yard they had intended to rob. They are arrested on suspicion of murder, but it becomes obvious to McKeown that these were just two amateur burglars who got more than they bargained for. During the course of the investigation, McKeown discovers that one of the boys, Dex, 17, a parks and gardens laborer, is bringing up his younger brother and sister alone. An unlikely friendship develops as McKeown becomes impressed by what Dex is making of his life. Although living on a council estate on the fringes of Manchester, Dex has created a beautiful garden (mainly from materials he has lifted from work). McKeown and his girlfriend Sandra become regular visitors to Dex's home, inspired by this young family who seem so determined to survive. The situation changes radically when McKeown suddenly has reason to question Dex's involvement in the original murder, which raises question about the way Dex and his brother and sister came to be parentless. McKeown starts unpeeling discrepancies and lies, gleaned mainly from personal conversations. As McKeown unravels the secrets of Dex's life, he begins to take stock of his own.
