This indispensable two disc collection contains over six hours' worth of programmes made during the 1950s and 60s for the independent TV channels by leading documentary filmmakers of their day. Bringing together work by award winning directors such as Peter Morley (director of the shocking Fan Fever), Philip Donnelly (whose motto was "giving a voice to the people") and Michael Grigsby (whose career spanned six decades in which he explored a great many subjects in a uniquely humane way), this collection provides access to an era of great change in Britain.

Prior to this release, the Happy Tree Friends were the main attraction at a popular Web site, where they developed quite a cult following. It's easy to see why. These hyper-kinetic, ultra-violent, Flash-animated shorts are exactly the sorts of things to provide office workers with an amusing diversion for a few minutes. A large cast of doe-eyed cartoon animals with names such as Cuddles, Giggles and Lumpy are dispatched in a variety of gruesome ways, with results that are like My Little Pony guest-starring in an episode of The Simpsons' own ultra-violent cartoon Itchy & Scratchy. But what works so well on the Internet doesn't necessarily survive the transfer to home viewing. That which is cathartically entertaining to deskbound employees at 3 o'clock on a Friday afternoon is, at times, repetitive and even predictable when viewed from the comfort of one's own armchair. Itchy & Scratchy works so well because of the satire and the increasingly creative and ridiculously elaborate cartoon violence--qualities that are missing from Happy Tree Friends. As a result, it's best to sample this one episode at a time, rather than sit through the whole thing in one go. --Robert Burrow
The era when the speed and power of the stream train epitomised the freedom and romance of travel. The age when, although elaborate and delicate, the steam railway was one of the most successful feats of construction and organisation ever evolved by man. The locomotives, the rolling stock and liveries, the journeys and the architecture; all of which went to make one of the greatest eras in railway history; an age now preserved in glorious detail with this programme. Featured trains include: The Golden Arrow, The Flying Scotsman (4472/60103), The Coronation Scot (6220), The Elizabethan (60028), The Silver Jubilee, The Union Of South Africa (60009), The Camelot (73082) and many more.
Critically hailed as 'the planet's coolest TV drama' (The Times) Mad Men winner of three consecutive Golden Globes and back-to-back Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series is a darkly humourous look at the incredible advertising minds dictating the American Dream in the late 50s and 60s. Hard drinking chain smoking over-sexed and smoulderingly stylish the Madison Avenue pioneers sell an ideal they are struggling to achieve in their own lives. Mad Men is a sexy stylish and shocking portrait of a time that was anything but innocent. Nothing is as sexy. Nothing is as provocative. Nothing is as it seems. Winner of an incredible thirteen Emmys four Golden Globes and a BAFTA Mad Men is the groundbreaking series that critics are calling one of TV's best ever dramas. Contains all 52 episodes of the four award-winning seasons.
Reigning supreme for almost a decade as ITV's biggest comedian, Arthur Haynes was one of the most influential and popular comics that television has ever seen. His shows remained firmly in the top ten until his untimely death in 1966 robbed the world of a comedy genius. Lack of repeats ensured that subsequent generations were denied Haynes' comedic brilliance - until now. Wickedly funny scripts by Alf Garnett creator Johnny Speight invariably drew on the familiar class antagonism later honed to perfection in Till Death Us Do Part, while Haynes' robust working-class delivery was inspired - never more so than in the character of Hobo Haynes, a belligerent, heavily decorated tramp fond of recounting tales of patriotic bravery whilst being 'up to me neck in muck and bullets'.

Our third volume of films by the renowned British documentary filmmaker Marc Isaacs brings together two films chronicling very different perspectives on the nature of love, respect and devotion. With these films Isaacs continues to seek out places where a complete palette of humanity can be found. Heartrending and hilarious in ways that only the love life of an 11-year-old can be, Someday My Prince Will Come (2005) is rare in its willingness to accept kids on their own terms. Narrated in rhyming voice-over by its subject, Laura-Anne, as she embarks on a quest to find a 'prince'. Along the way, we're reminded of the tumultuous nature of young love and offered an unvarnished look at the social life of a small British coastal village. Philip and His Seven Wives (2006), a film made for the BBC s prestigious Storyville strand, tells the fascinating story of a former Rabbi s attempt to create a new Godly family. Believing he communicated directly with God, messianic rabbi Philip Sharpe says he learned he was a former Hebrew King, and as a Jewish patriarch he is entitled to seven wives. Isaacs s captivating and intimate documentary visits Philip and his wives at their unconventional home in a quiet suburb, where daily life revolves around devotion to the Torah and obedience to the head of the house.
