His struggle for fairness and equality spread across the world and left no one indifferent and unaffected by this issue and throughout his life he remained a devoted champion for peace and social justice. Starting from his childhood this programme takes you on a journey through his life from his time at university studying law in Johannesburg to joining the African National Congress party and his subsequent struggle against apartheid. It covers his years in imprisonment in 1962 and also the following worldwide campaign to release him and his ultimate release in 1990.
