  • Cleanskin [Blu-ray][Region Free]Cleanskin | Blu Ray | (26/11/2012) from £4.47   |  Saving you £15.52 (347.20%)   |  RRP £19.99

A film that’s utterly anchored by a terrific central performance from Sean Bean, Cleanskin is a gritty British thriller, dealing with a sensitive subject. Bean’s character is a secret service agent, one who is tracking down a terrorist cell in the UK, but the film also devotes a good chunk of time to one of the terrorists, too. That focus is trained on Ash, played by Abhin Galeya, who finds himself persuaded into terrorism, and inevitably on a collision path with Bean. Cleanskin then builds things up on different sides of the law, before its inevitable climax. It’s a brave and well-handled film at its best, too. There’s the odd tonal problem, where the deathly serious drama at the heart of the story is sacrificed for a less deathly serious action sequence, but there’s a real commitment here to tell the story well. Bean, too, is excellent, dragging the film through its weaker moments, and proving once more what a compelling screen presence he is. It’s a pity that the disc’s extra features don’t dig too much deeper into the complex subject matter, although you do get some behind the scenes material to complement the main feature. And, the presentation of the movie is terrific, too. Cleanskin is a divisive film, though, courtesy of the subject decisions it’s not afraid to make. In spite of its flaws, it’s a compelling piece of cinema, that overcomes its tight budget to present something both interesting and engaging. No easy feat. --Jon Foster

Collection of animations following the adventures of the DC Comics hero. 'Superman: The Last Son of Krypton', the three-part episode from 'Superman: The Animated Series', recounts the early years of Superman (voice of Tim Daly) from his forced exile from the dying planet Krypton, through his growing up as a human boy, to his work at the Daily Planet as mild-mannered Clark Kent. No-one knows that the shy reporter is the superhero who has to stop terrorists blowing up Metropolis and keep Lex Luthor (Clancy Brown) in check. 'Superman: A Little Piece of Home' contains another four episodes from the series. In the title episode, Superman foils a gem heist at a new museum funded by Metropolis' mastermind criminal Lex Luthor, but mysteriously falls ill when he comes near one of their rare green gems. Luthor figures out that this rare rock is really a meteorite from Superman's home planet Krypton. But Lois Lane (Dana Delany) proves that it doesn't take superpowers to ruin Luthor's plans. In 'Speed Demons', Superman and super-cocky Flash (Charlie Schlatter) decide to race one-on-one to settle who's the fastest man on the planet, but the contest is interrupted when a mysterious villain called Weather Wizard (Miguel Ferrer) threatens to destroy Metropolis unless his demands are met. In 'The Late Mr Kent', Clark Kent digs into a murder case a little too deep and is presumed dead. In 'Where There's Smoke', Superman takes on Volcana (Peri Gilpin), a woman with fiery powers. Finally, in the full-length feature 'All-Star Superman' (2011), as a result of his arch nemesis Lex Luther (Anthony LaPaglia)'s scheming, Superman (James Denton) is overexposed to radiation and is slowly dying. Before he leaves the world forever, Superman must save it one last time from Luther's evil ways.

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray)[Region A & B]The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray | Blu Ray | (17/09/2012) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £24.99

The third film based on C.S. Lewis's fantasy books, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader opens three years after the Pevensie children return from battling to restore peace to Narnia in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) are still staying with Eustace (Will Poulter), while Peter and Susan have gotten older and moved on to school and America, respectively. Still as surly and unbelieving as ever, Eustace continues to mock his cousins for their Narnian fantasies. But when water begins spilling into their room from a painting hanging on the wall, all three young people are swept onto the decks of the sailing ship known as the Dawn Treader, which is afloat in the waters of Narnia. This time, there are no wars to be fought in Narnia. But it soon becomes evident that the trio is destined to help King Caspian (Ben Barnes) solve the mystery of the disappearance of the seven lords of Telmar, and prevent the ongoing sacrifices of large groups of Narnian people to the evil green mist. So begins a quest through uncharted waters that will require each of the children to resist temptations like beauty and power, and to conquer the darkness within themselves in order to defeat the threat to Narnia's people. The battle promises to yield unexpected heroes, and through their journey, Edmund, Lucy, Eustace, and even King Caspian and Reepicheep (voiced by Simon Pegg) each grow and mature. Eventually, Aslan (voiced by Liam Neeson) will ask each adventurer to make an important choice that will forever influence his or her future. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader features plenty of high adventure, sword-fighting action, and personal peril, and while it fails to fully capitalise on the characters' motivations or to earn viewers' full emotional investment, it is still a solid addition to the Narnia film series. IN VIETNAM THEY FOUGHT FOR THEIR COUNTRY. NOW, THEY RE FIGHTING FOR THEIR FRIENDS. As the 1980s rolled on, a new, bullish attitude to war took hold in America, the weary cynicism of the previous decade giving way to an unabashed celebration of military might. Numerous filmmakers and producers sought to capitalise on the emerging mood... among them New World Pictures, the company founded by the legendary Roger Corman.
