The BAFTA nominated director Coky Giedroyc and the Tony award winning Martin Koch bring to life the ITV dramatisation of the world's most popular musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, The Sound of Music. The ambitious two and a half hour drama, filmed and transmitted live, stars the spectacular Kara Tointon (Mr Selfridge, EastEnders) as former nun Maria who becomes the governess for a large family who live in the shadow of their domineering and repressed widower father Captain Georg von Trapp (Julian Ovenden, Downton Abbey). Along with the required discipline Maria brings love, music and excitement into the children's lives and also eventually begins to have an effect on their father. But just when things are looking up, the rise of Nazism and the looming threat of war darkens all of their futures. Supported by Katherine Kelly (Mr Selfridge, Coronation Street) as Baroness Elsa Schraeder and Alexander Armstrong (Armstrong and Miller, Danger Mouse) as Max Detweiler the production became the must see event on the year.

Arne Dahl's A Unit has been disbanded for the last two years. When a wave of brutal murders hits Polish nurses in Sweden, the National Police see their chance to instate the unit again. Kerstin Holm, previously a member of the A Unit, is assigned to lead them. The A Units official role in the police force is to investigate complex, violent crimes with international connections. Kerstin builds her team with former members of the unit Nyberg, Chavez, Svenhagen and So derstedt, but she is assigned a new recruit as well, somewhat reluctantly Ida Jankowicz, a wiry, yet powerful, rookie with exceptional language skills. Paul Hjelm, previously a key figure in the A Unit, has been promoted to a job as head of Internal Affairs. At first, he and the A Unit are pretty far removed from each other, but their paths will cross sooner than any of them could imagine. We meet a chastened unit of individuals who have allowed the all consuming nature of their police work to eat away at their private lives. Demands and expectations have never been higher and a cold wind blows through the corridors at the National Police headquarters. Can Kerstin get the unit to deliver or is this new effort a misguided attempt by a paranoid police force in a time of increasingly unusual and refined criminal activity?

Steven Spielberg produced this underwhelming 1986 effort at a slapstick spin on Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. The pre-Oscar Tom Hanks stars with Shelley Long as a married couple whose efforts to finish construction on their home are sabotaged by costly and sporadically funny accidents. The unfinished domicile becomes a metaphor for their troubled relationship, as evidenced by the attraction of Long's character to a madman violinist (Alexander Godunov). Hanks is the only reason at this point to check this film out. Richard Benjamin (My Favorite Year) directs but with no flair or distinction. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com
