Big Brother - Uncut 2 | DVD | (10/09/2001)
from £9.10
| Saving you £3.89 (42.75%)
| RRP Hitting back with a second series, the Big Brother phenomenon looks set to continue into the foreseeable future. Many critics of the show predicted that the concept had run out of steam by the end of its first series, and the nonchalance of the new contestants in the Big Brother house--who all seemed rather insipid compared to the likes of Nasty Nick--appeared to confirm their worst fears. However, the unashamedly voyeuristic nature of the show made the sequel almost as much of a success as the first one, topping Channel 4's ratings for weeks on end, and fuelling pub conversations across the country over the summer of 2001. With national papers backing their favourite candidates and the final public vote for the winner beating the turn out for the 2001 General Election, the series' formula appears to have plenty of mileage in it yet. This compilation brings you the best and worst of the household's antics: from Brian's comedy moments to Paul and Helen's will--they-won't-they audience grabber. --Nikki Disney

Sahara (Limited Edition) | Blu Ray | (20/01/2025)
from £17.98
| Saving you £N/A (N/A%)
| RRP Humphrey Bogart (The Harder They Fall), Bruce Bennett (Undertow) and J Carrol Naish (The Lives of a Bengal Lancer) star in Sahara, a thrilling tale of World War II heroism from director Zoltán Korda (A Woman's Vengeance). Separated from his unit following the fall of Tobruk, Master Sergeant Joe Gunn (Bogart) and his crew flee in a tank across the Sahara, picking up a variety of stragglers and prisoners along the way. With their survival entirely dependent on the water from a depleted well, the group must defend it against a whole German battalion. Produced by Harry Joe Brown (Buchanan Rides Alone) and shot under harsh conditions in the unforgiving landscape of the Colorado Desert, the production of Sahara utilised an entire US Army division as extras, adding to the film's gritty sense of realism.

Oliver returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs of his family and fighting injustice. As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (series star DAVID RAMSEY), computer science expert Felicity Smoak (series star EMILY BETT RICKARDS), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (series star WILLA HOLLAND), former police captain Quentin Lance (series star PAUL BLACKTHORNE) and brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (new series regular ECHO KELLUM). Newly appointed Mayor Oliver Queen finds himself challenged as he fights on two fronts for the future of Star City. With Diggle back in the military and Thea adamant about hanging up her hood as Speedy, Team Arrow is down to just Oliver and Felicity -- but they're no longer the only vigilantes in town. The Green Arrow's public defeat of Damien Darhk (guest star NEAL McDONOUGH) at the end of Season Four has inspired a new crop of masked heroes to step up and defend the city, though their painful inexperience makes them obstacles, rather than allies, in the field. In Love And War | DVD | (20/03/2000)
from £8.73
| Saving you £7.26 (83.16%)
| RRP This disastrous 1996 film by Sir Richard Attenborough was meant to be part of his informal series of movies about great men, including Gandhi, Chaplin, Cry Freedom (the Steven Biko story) and Shadowlands (CS Lewis). In Love and War is a recounting of young Ernest Hemingway's World War I love affair with Red Cross nurse Agnes von Kurowsky, who was eight years older than he and who became the basis for the Catherine Barkley character in A Farewell to Arms. O'Donnell is terrible, in a word, and Bullock mostly seems out of sorts when playing someone real. Except for the scene in which Hemingway is introduced, fearlessly making his way to a trench under heavy bombardment, you have no idea that this person O'Donnell "portrays" will eventually change the direction of American literature. For a much better experience, look toward Attenborough's previous works. --Tom Keogh
Inspector Morse - Disc 21 And 22 - Dead On Time / Happy Families | DVD | (12/08/2002)
from £4.98
| Saving you £10.01 (201.00%)
| RRP When Inspector Morse first appeared on television in 1987, nobody could have predicted that it would run into the next century, maintaining throughout a quality of scripts and story lines that raised the genre of the detective series to a new level. Much of its success can be attributed to John Thaw's total immersion in the role. Morse is a prickly character and not obviously easy to like. As a detective in Oxford with unfulfilled academic propensities, he is permanently excluded from a world of which he would dearly love to be a part. He is at odds with that world--and with his colleagues in the police force--most of the time. Passionate about opera and "proper beer", he is a cultural snob for whom vulgarity causes almost physical pain. As a result, he lives from one disillusionment to another. And he is scarred--more deeply than he would ever admit--by past relationships. But he also has a naïve streak and, deep-down sensitivity, which makes him a fascinating challenge for women. At the heart of Morse's professional life is his awkward partnership with Detective Sergeant Lewis, the resolutely ordinary, worldly sidekick who manages to keep his boss in an almost permanent state of exasperation while retaining his grudging respect. It's a testament to Kevin Whateley's consistently excellent performance that from such unpromising material, Lewis becomes as indispensable to the series as Barrington Pheloung's hypnotic, classic theme music. Morse's investigations do occasionally take him abroad to more exotic locations, but throughout 14 successful years of often gruesome murders, the city of Oxford itself became a central character in these brooding two-hour dramas: creator Colin Dexter stating he finally had to kill Morse off because he was giving Oxford a bad reputation as a dangerous place! --Piers Ford
