Delta offer you the largest collection of Beverly Hillbillies episodes ever released on DVD. This seven disc box set featuring 55 episodes of the hilarious exploits of the 'Clampett Clan' as they come to terms with wealth and life on America's west coast. Let the adventures begin! Running for nearly 300 episodes The Beverly Hillbillies was clocked as the top-rated show of its premier season and remained in the top ten throughout its nine year run. It follows the story of Jed Clampett a poor mountaineer who while hunting on his land took and missed a shot which led to the discovery of a huge oil pool black gold in the swamp he owned in Tennessee. Jed sells his land for $25 million whereupon his town sophisticate cousin Pearl convinces him the wealthy Los Angeles suburb of Beverly Hills might provide a suitable beau for his daughter Elly May and career opportunities for his wayward nephew Jethro Bodine. So they load up the old rattletrap truck and along with Duke the family dog they move to Beverly complete with a rocking chair up top to house granny. The Clampett's in their new 32 room 14 bathroom mansion on Crestview Drive live as they always have never abandoning their mountain attire or replacing the old truck. They continue to grow their own food and endeavouring to keep livestock. Attempting to live a rural life despite his wealth Jed a practical good natured man longed for the old ways back in the Ozarks but made the best of being in Beverly Hills. Other characters we see often in the program include The Drysdales; The Clampett's neighbours and more importantly their greedy bank manager Milburn Drysdale. Jane Hathaway loyal and efficient assistant to Mr. Drysdale who harbours something of a crush for Jethro. Misunderstandings are a general source of humour in this program either the Clampett's don't understand something they have never encountered before such as the swimming pool (throughout the program Granny used it to do the laundry) or the various city dwellers don't comprehend the Clampett's.

  • Bride Of Re-Animator [1990]Bride Of Re-Animator | DVD | (27/01/2003) from £29.95   |  Saving you £-9.96 (N/A%)   |  RRP £19.99

Brian Yuzna's Bride of Re-Animator (1990) was one of the last hurrahs for special-effects-based horror films before CGI extended the ease with which the impossible could be put on screen. Like its predecessor, Re-Animator, Bride is very loosely based on HP Lovecraft's stories of Herbert West, a scientist with a taste for investigation that knows no boundaries, especially not those of good taste. He and his agonisingly liberal sidekick Cain have discovered an improvement on their original serum--now they can not only bring the dead back to life but also assemble them from parts first. Jeffrey Combs gives a wonderfully dour performance as West, not even cracking a smile when a creature he has concocted from fingers and an eye-ball is running around the room unseen by a pestering detective. This is the sort of film that constantly escalates its macabre elements--the surviving villain of the first film has been left as simply an animated head, but that does not stop him pursuing his revenge on West, nor finding ways of using West's new techniques along the way. It all makes for cheerfully gruesome fun. On the DVD: Bride of Re-Animator is presented in an anamorphic widescreen visual aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and its Dolby 2.0 does what little can be done with the muddy soundtrack, but is rather better with the jauntily creepy score. The only special features on this Tartan issue are the trailer, the director's production notes and a reel of trailers for other Tartan horror movies. --Roz Kaveney

  • My Dear Secretary [1948]My Dear Secretary | DVD | (22/03/2004) from £5.91   |  Saving you £2.07 (70.89%)   |  RRP £4.99

If Charles Martin's wisecracking 1948 period-piece My Dear Secretary hasn't quite endured as a classic of its kind, it still commands attention as an appealing and often very funny curiosity. Kirk Douglas rightly earned his status as one of the titans of big-screen epic drama, so it's a surprise to encounter him in this romantic comedy as a feckless writer who can always find something to do rather than get down to work, leaving a string of outraged, frustrated or compromised secretaries in his wake. Douglas has a reasonably light comic touch and spars well with Laraine Day, in determined form as the secretary whom finally tames him and, in a notable strike for women's liberation, becomes a successful author herself in the process. But this is a film in which the supporting cast steal the best lines and scenes. Keenan Wynn is delightful as Ronnie, Douglas' neighbour and partner in the pursuit of pleasure. Some splendid high campery offers ample evidence that in a more enlightened age, Ronnie would surely have been openly gay. How else to explain his hilarious last reel marriage of convenience to the wealthy dragon of a landlady, played by the irrepressible Florence Bates? It isn't vintage screwball by any means, but My Dear Secretary is witty and literate enough to make you long for a revival in sophisticated cinema comedy. Truly, they don't make 'em like they used to. On the DVD: As the rush to release long-forgotten gems on DVD turns into a deluge, we will probably have to get used to the sort of disappointment on offer here: unrestored prints with no digital remastering and lousy sound quality, simply slammed onto the disc. The film could hardly be served less adequately. There isn't even any static background information on the production or the actors, making the package rather poor. --Piers Ford
