In series 1, Catherine Cawood (Lancashire) receives a visit from Kevin Weatherill (Steve Pemberton), a distressed member of the Yorkshire community she oversees, and is drawn into a ransom case in which the life of Ann Gallagher (Charlie Murphy) is at stake. Kevin employed local thug Ashley Cowgill (Joe Armstrong) to kidnap Ann in the hope of extracting a ransom from his boss, and his remorse has come too late to prevent the crime. Can Catherine get to the girl in time? In series 2, while investigating a case of sheep-stealing, Sgt Cawood discovers the decomposed body of a murdered prostitute who she later discovers is the mother of Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton). This revelation places Catherine at the centre of the investigation as a possible suspect while Royce continues to torment her from inside his cell with the help of his new accomplice Frances (Shirley Henderson). While she takes on a new case of human trafficking, Catherine deals with more complications in her personal relationships and is recommended by her bosses to undertake a course of counselling therapy.

With this stunningly visceral portrait of self-destructive machismo, Martin Scorsese created one of the truly great and visionary works of modern cinema. Robert De Niro pours his blood, sweat, and brute physicality into the Oscar-winning role of Jake La Motta, the rising middleweight boxer from the Bronx whose furious ambition propels him to success within the ring but whose unbridled paranoia and jealousy tatter his relationships with everyone in his orbit, including his brother and manager (Joe Pesci) and his gorgeous, streetwise wife (Cathy Moriarty). Thelma Schoonmaker's Oscar-winning editing, Michael Chapman's extraordinarily tactile black-and-white cinematography, and Frank Warner's ingenious sound design combine to make Raging Bull a uniquely powerful exploration of violence on multiple levels physical, emotional, psychic, and spiritual DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital master, approved by director Martin Scorsese, with 2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features Three audio commentaries, featuring Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker; director of photography Michael Chapman, producers Robert Chartoff and Irwin Winkler, casting director Cis Corman, music consultant Robbie Robertson, and others; and boxer Jake La Motta and screenwriters Mardik Martin and Paul Schrader New video essays by film critics Geoffrey O'Brien and Sheila O'Malley Fight Night, a making-of program featuring Scorsese and key members of the cast and crew Three short programs highlighting the collaboration between Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro Television interview from 1981 with actor Cathy Moriarty and the real Vikki La Motta Interview with Jake La Motta from 1990 Program from 2004 featuring veteran boxers reminiscing about La Motta Trailer English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: Essays by poet Robin Robertson and film critic Glenn Kenny New cover by Eric Skillman

  • Terminator 2 [Blu-ray] [2017]Terminator 2 | Blu Ray | (04/12/2017) from £7.99   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £N/A

Arguably the finest movie of its kind, Terminator 2: Judgment Day captured Arnold Schwarzenegger at the very apex of his Hollywood celebrity and James Cameron at the peak of his perfectionist directorial powers. Nothing the star did subsequently measured up to his iconic performance here, spouting legendary catchphrases and wielding weaponry with unparalleled cool; and while the director had an even bigger hit with the bloated and sentimental Titanic, few followers of his career would deny that Cameron's true forte has always been sci-fi action. With an incomparably bigger budget than its 1984 precursor, T2 essentially reworks the original scenario with envelope-stretching special effects and simply more, more, more of everything. Yet, for all its scale, T2 remains at heart a classic sci-fi tale: robots running amok, time travel paradoxes and dystopian future worlds are recurrent genre themes, which are here simply revitalised by Cameron's glorious celebration of the mechanistic. From the V-twin roar of a Harley Fat Boy to the metal-crunching Steel Mill finale, the director's fascination with machines is this movie's strongest motif: it's no coincidence that the character with whom the audience identifies most strongly is a robot. Now that impressive but unengaging CGI effects have come to over-dominate sci-fi movies (think of The Phantom Menace), T2's pivotal blending of extraordinary live-action stuntwork and FX looks more and more like it will never be equalled. --Mark Walker
