Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster's (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption. When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region's vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it's most needed-in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens. But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA's intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives - and eventually his own. When DAWN OF THE DEAD was released in Italy as ZOMBI the late great Lucio Fulci took it upon himself to make his own sequel, ZOMBI 2 - also known as ZOMBIE FLESH-EATERS. Thus, proving that copyright was a grey area back in the 1980s, director Ciro Ippolito decided that there was nothing to stop him making a follow-up to Ridley Scott's sci-fi suspenser ALIEN - resulting in the birth of ALIEN 2: ON EARTH. This Italian offering came six years before ALIENS and, with a bevy of low budget charm and the occasional spilled brain, spins out a story of an extraterrestrial terror landing in the here and now and stalking its prey in contemporary California.Putting themselves up against this otherworldly entity are a small group of explorers - and seasoned fans of Italian shock will doubtlessly notice the great Michele Soavi (A BLADE IN THE DARK/ PHENOMENA) among the cast! Arguably more exciting than ALIEN 3, decades later and ALIEN 2: ON EARTH might well be the film that David Fincher wishes he had made. See it now and decide and for yourselves - thanks to this amazing HD restoration from 88 Films. • Bram Stoker's Legend Of The Mummy 2 | DVD | (03/12/2001) from £3.95   |  Saving you £-1.96 (N/A%)   |  RRP £1.99

A group of archaeology students who look like they have just walked out of Beverly Hills 90210 are given the privilege of studying an Aztec mummy that has been discovered in Los Angeles. It turns out, however, that a geek among them is in fact a high priest of an ancient Aztec religion, who wishes to resurrect the mummy in order to punish his peers for years of social neglect. Such a synopsis might conceal what this film actually is: a mummy waddling around what looks like a villa (presumably the producer's house) and killing the few so-called characters to whom we have been introduced. The six murders are directed without any suspense or shock factor and, more criminally for a low-budget horror film, there is not even any tongue-in-cheek humour or over-the-top gore. Admittedly, the mummy itself is very entertaining: portly, and with a fluffy, Jack Charlton side-parting, it looks like someone has buried a close friend's dad and dug them up two weeks later. Truly horrific. --Paul Philpott
