The series's usual centerpiece--isolating parts of the multitrack tapes to illuminate the whole--is invaluable not only in demonstrating Hendrix's genius for building performances in the studio, but, by extension, implying how the music coming out of his head reflected his heart. Throw in a few guest appearances from familiar faces from some of the best-known teen movies of the 1980s along with remakes of songs from the same films - and even some word-for-word dialogue - and you have an amusing walk down memory lane for anyone who has a soft spot for the films of Hughes Crowe and the rest. Bring It On: In It To Win It: Southern California high school senior Carson arrives at the all-important Cheer Camp Nationals determined to lead her squad the West High Sharks to victory. But chic New Yorker Brooke and her team the East High Jets are equally steadfast in their pursuit of the competition's coveted Spirit Stick. As tension mounts between the two rival squads Carson falls for fellow cheerleader Penn not realizing he's a Jet. When Brooke discovers the budding romance she raises the stakes by challenging Carson to a one-on-one cheer-off. A spectacular cheer fighting sequence erupts into a no-holds-barred brawl and cheerleaders on both sides are suspended from the competition. When a well-dressed rogue, fleeing from angry partners he double-crossed, takes refuge in a lavish, moat-protected mansion, servant girls Franca Mai and Brigitte Lahaie cajole, tease and seduce him into staying for their night-time soiree. "You have stumbled into Elizabeth and Eva's life, the universe of madness and death", mutters one of them as they await the cabal where he is the guest of honour. Shot on a starvation budget and populated with stiff performers, Rollin's direction is arch and at times sloppy and his story never more than an outline. It's the mix of dreamy and nightmarish imagery that gives Fascination its fascination: blonde Lahaie stalking victims with a scythe, the bourgeois blood cult swarming over a fresh victim like wild animals, alabaster faces streaked in blood. While it lacks the delirious spontaneity of his earlier vampire films Shiver of the Vampires and Requiem for a Vampire, the languid pace and austere beauty creates an often-mesmerising fantasy. --Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com
