Romero (Dawn of the Dead Night of the Living Dead) a small group of scientists and soldiers have taken refuge in an underground missile silo where they struggle to control the flesh-eating horror that walks the earth above. But will the final battle for the future of the human race be fought among the living or have they forever unleashed the hunger of the dead? Andrew Bergmans tongue-in-cheek comedy The Freshman keeps the spoofing low key, underplaying the outrageous situations even as he piles them higher. Young Clark Kellog (Matthew Broderick) had no idea film school would drop him into the hands of a real-life Godfather, but after a street punk robs him during his first day in New York City, thats just where the road leads. Marlon Brando lets everyone know hes in on the joke with his hammy, good-humoured performance as the bulldog-jowled Mafioso Carmine Sabatini, the man Clarks prissy, self-important professor swears was the real-life inspiration for Don Corleone. Carmine has a modest proposal for the naive kid from Vermont involving Carmines gorgeous daughter Tina (Penelope Ann Miller) and the illegal importing of an endangered lizard. And if the sight of a six-foot-long lizard scattering shoppers as it runs wild through a New York City mall doesnt do it for you, theres always Bert Parks rousing rendition of Bob Dylans "Maggies Farm".--Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com

One of the patients in an institution for the incurably insane was once its director, and a young psychiatrist (Robert Powell) has to figure out which one as they all tell him their stories. What better setting for a horror anthology? It's an inspired framing device, making this one of the better examples of the genre, even if screenwriter Robert Bloch at times resorts to gimmicks rather than invention. The first two stories are less than brilliant (the first is highlighted by dismembered body parts neatly wrapped in butcher paper wriggling back to life for revenge), but Charlotte Rampling and Britt Ekland are marvellous in the third tale, about a mentally unbalanced young woman and her dangerous best friend. Herbert Lom is also excellent in the final story as a scientist who carves an army of dolls he claims he can bring to life by sheer willpower. Director Roy Ward Baker (Quatermas and the Pit) builds momentum with each story until the dark and deliciously bloody climax. This Amicus Studios production looks visually dull compared to Hammer's gothic gloss, but it features a great British cast (including Patrick Magee and Hammer stalwart Peter Cushing), and ultimately Baker makes that gloomy look work for his increasingly creepy production. Amicus produced a series of horror anthologies, including the original 1972 Tales from the Crypt and The Torture Garden (also scripted by Bloch). --Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com
…one of the world's greatest guitarists, a must-see performer and one of the finest songwriters this country has ever produced. – The SpectatorFilmed in January 2011 at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow as part of the annual Celtic Connections festival, this superb performance by The Richard Thompson Band marks their first ever live concert Blu-ray release. The first half of the show focuses on Thompson’s latest “Dream Attic” album with the second half given over to songs reaching back as far as his first solo album “Henry The Human Fly” and up to recent releases such as “Sweet Warrior” and “The Old Kit Bag”. Thompson’s distinctive voice and unmistakeable guitar style are well to the fore and his band are as good as it gets. This will be a must have purchase for any Richard Thompson fan.In the guitar god firmament, Thompson easily takes a place beside Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. He has certainly been the most consistently imaginative English plank spanker of modern times. - Daily Mirror Track Listing: The Money Shuffle Among The Gorse, Among The Grey Haul Me Up Burning Man Here Comes Geordie Demons In Her Dancing Shoes Big Sun Falling In The River Stumble On Sidney Wells A Brother Slips Away If Love Whispers Your Name The Angels Took My Racehorse Away Can’t Win One Door Opens Al Bowlly’s In Heaven I’ll Never Give It Up Wall Of Death Tear Stained Letter Take Care The Road You Choose A Man In Need Bonus Features: Two tracks filmed at the 2011 Cambridge Folk Festival Uninhabited Man Johnny’s Far Away

In 'Back To Bataan' John Wayne plays Colonel Joe Madden a rough tough officer serving under General MacArthur during the Second World War. When American forces are forced to pull out of Bataan Madden volunteers to stay behind and organize the Filipino residents into a top flight guerilla force that will keep the Japanese on edge until MacArthur's promised return. There's some romance amid the suspense and sweaty action as an attractive Manila resistance liason (Fely Franquelli) falls for Wayne's second-in-command Captain Andres Bonifacio (Anthony Quinn) an earnest fighter trying to live up to his folk hero father's reputation. Madden however is too busy for women preferring to spend his time communicating by radio to his valiant men as they count the boats and plant the mines. The Duke is nicely understated in this atypical role a nice counterbalance to costar Quinn's typically impassioned performance. War film buffs should enjoy the film's appealing blend of action nail-biting suspense and jingoistic patriotism. Director Edward Dmytryk would later go on to direct 'The Caine Mutiny' and 'The Young Lions'.
