This collection brings together Women is the Future of Man and Tale of Cinema, the fifth and sixth films by Hong Sangsoo, the masterful South Korean filmmaker who has been favourably compared to that great French observer of human foibles, Eric Rohmer. Women is the Future of Man tells of two long-time friends, a filmmaker (Kim Taewoo) and a teacher (Yoo Jitae), who have had an affair with the same woman (Sung Hyunah). The friends decide to meet the girl one more time and see what happens... Tale of Cinema uses the trope of a film within a film to tell two stories, that of a depressive young man (Lee Kiwoo) who forms a suicide pact with a friend (Uhm Jiwon); and the tale of a filmmaker (Kim Sangkyung) who sees see a film that he believes was based on his life, and who meets the actress from the film with view to turning their onscreen relationship into reality. With these critically-acclaimed films, presented here in High Definition for the first time with a wealth of extras, Hong Sangsoo employs his idiosyncratic, measured style to create two compelling and truthful tapestries of human emotion and behaviour. The SnowmanThe Snowman has been a Christmas staple ever since its original release in 1982. Based on Raymond Briggs' classic children's book the tale of a solitary little boy whose snowman comes to life in the night and takes him on a series of adventures which culminate in a meeting with Father Christmas. It's uncluttered by modern standards and told with a gentle simplicity which renders it utterly poignant. The Snowman deservedly won awards for its animators. But they had the best material to work with: Briggs' softly absorbing original illustrations which magically combine Christmas fantasy with the stark realities of life and death. The Snowman and the SnowdogThe Snowman and the Snowdog beautifully captures the magic and excitement of the original film as well as being a heart-warming story about love loss and friendship. When a young boy Billy moves house he discovers a secret box hidden under the floorboards - a snowman-making kit! Billy builds his Snowman and with a little spare snow a Snowdog. At midnight The Snowman and the Snowdog magically come to life. Join Billy on an amazing adventure as they fly over London to the North Pole and compete with a mix of wonderfully colourful characters in a very special race. On return Billy must leave his new friends outside and return to bed - but first a wonderful surprise awaits him...
