Festive drama following the love entanglement between a school administrator and a music teacher. Though it may seem appropriate to be moving to a town called Bethlehem at Christmas, Cal (Gerald McRaney) and his niece, Fern (Alison Pill), aren't particularly enthused by their impending relocation to the small Kentucky town. Fern complains that they are always on the move, denying her the opportunity to build stable friendships, while Cal is handed the tough task of rescuing the Bethlehem school system from the verge of collapse. Music teacher Lily Waite (Naomi Judd) brightens the spirits of both, with Fern rediscovering her love of music and Cal rediscovering love. However, with tough decisions on the school system looming, will Cal face an impossible choice as personal and professional loyalties collide?
