In this second programme Albert Rowse - who started shovelling and later became a driver - describes the change over from steam to diesel and the sometimes haphazard way in which this was accomplished. The routes covered in this programme are the Glasgow and South Western to Dumfries the Waverely route to Edinburgh and the West Coast Main Line to London. Albert gives his opinions on some of the engines based at the Barrow-in-Furness shed.
