Unusual sci-fi romance from Danish director Thomas Vintenberg, set in a near-future world teetering on the brink of environmental collapse: children are dying on the streets in New York from an unexplained illness; the weather has become unpredictable to the point where snowstorms are a regular occurrence even in high summer; and a hole in the atmosphere above Uganda is starting to reverse the effects of gravity. Amid the chaos, a famous figure-skater, Elena (Claire Danes) and her husband John (Joaquin Phoenix) are in New York to sign their divorce papers after an 18-month separation. But when she sees John, an unhappy Elena ends up asking him to stay, and John discovers that Elena's manager, David (Alun Armstrong) has had Elena cloned, keeping three duplicates of her in case she is injured or killed. The discovery puts John's life in danger, and he and Elena are soon on the run together, realising that their relationship is the one thing worth fighting for.
