Toya Sato directs this film adaptation of the manga series by Nobuyuki Fukumoto. Kaiji Ito (Tatsuya Fujiwara) is a down-and-out loser whose addictive gambling lands him with a huge debt that he has little hope of ever repaying. When unscrupulous debt collector Rinko Endo (Yuki Amani) offers him a chance to repay the money by taking part in a winner-takes-all game aboard an illegal gambling boat, he decides to take the opportunity - but the plan backfires and Kaiji finds himself enslaved to a misanthropic multi-billionaire with a taste for life-and-death gambling games.
