Caulfield (Gene Hackman) is a district attorney determined to nail an old adversary. He gets his chance when Carol Hunnicutt (Anne Archer) witnesses a murder committed by the man - but a pack of assassins are determined to kill her before she can testify. Caulfield and Carol take refuge on a train to Vancouver, but the would-be killers are never far behind.

A woman on a blind date (Anne Archer) has her life thrown into confusion and danger when her escort is slain by mob thugs. As the key witness to the murder, she becomes the responsibility of Robert Caulfield (Gene Hackman), a Los Angeles D.A., who travels to remote Canadian cabin to protect her so she can testify against the hit men. Things go awry when a fellow cop gets killed, and the woman and the D.A. both find themselves on the run on a Vancouver-bound train, hurtling through the Rockies, with the mob on their tail.
