Luis Puenzo directs this adaption of the Carlos Fuentes novel. Harriet Winslow (Jane Fonda) is an ageing American schoolteacher who decides to change her life and travels to Mexico where the 1913 revolution is underway. Once there she becomes involved with the passionate General Arroyo (Jimmy Smits), as well as an embittered old journalist (Gregory Peck), who has journeyed to Mexico to find somewhere to die.
