Computer engineer Michael Jennings (Ben Affleck) is hired for work on top-secret projects and, so that he can't recount any secret information, his short-term memory is erased after each job. But following his latest assignment, given to him by an old friend (Aaron Eckhart), Jennings is shocked when he realises he has exchanged all payment for the job for a mysterious envelope containing clues to his forgotten past. He then discovers who he really is and sets out to prove his innocence; but not without his old employers giving chase.
