Howard Hughes' bawdy comedy caper about two inept airmen sent to earn their wings on the Western Front. Wisecracking idlers Wilkie (Spencer Tracy) and Mitchell (George Cooper) fail to dodge the draft as World War I intensifies in Europe, and are put to work shoveling manure at a US Army base. Their attempt at desertion backfires as they stow away on a troop ship carrying Air Corps pilots to France, and they blunder into war. Spencer Tracy and George Cooper star in this comedy co-produced by Howard Hughes and A. Edward Sutherland. When friends Wilkie (Tracy) and Mitchell (Cooper) get drafted in to the US Army, their first duty is to shovel manure at the base. As they attempt to desert, they fail to think through their plan as they end up on a ship transporting Air Corps pilots to France.
