Romantic drama following the story of a woman who lost her true love during World War One. Now living through The Blitz, Josephine Norris (Olivia de Havilland) looks back on her life to when she and Captain Bart Cosgrove (John Lund) fell in love. Their romance was brief, however, as Cosgrove was ordered back to the front line and later presumed dead, leaving Josephine alone and pregnant. So her child is not seen as illegitimate, Josephine leaves him with a family, hoping to later adopt him from them but her plan fails. Will her son ever know his real mother and can Josephine learn to love again?
