Thomas Arnold is the new headmaster of Rugby School, where the students have developed a reputation for being wild, disruptive and dishonest. Arnold instils a new discipline to the school, resulting in the expelling of several boys, at much the same time a new boy, Tom Brown arrives.

Classic drama based on the novel by Thomas Hughes in which a boy tries to survive the bully-ridden world of Rugby Boarding School. In a bid to counter its reputation as a wild school, Rugby appoints the stern Dr. Thomas Arnold (Cedric Hardwicke) as headmaster. Arnold's friend, Squire Brown (Ernest Cossart), elects to send his son, Tom (Jimmy Lydon), to the school as a gesture of support.
