  • The Police: Every Breath You Take [1986] The Police: Every Breath You Take | DVD | (07/04/2003) from £9.35  |  Saving you £0.64 (6.40%)  |  RRP £9.99

Every Breath You Take has all the evidence that Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland deserved their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, not a lot of that evidence is visual. The Police's videos--at least the 10 directed by Derek Burbige--seem thrown together and uninspired, consisting mostly of the trio half-heartedly lip-syncing or merely horsing around (the four later ones by Kevin Godley and Lol Creme are a considerable improvement). We do get to see Sting at his most punk (a 1978 live version of "Can't Stand Losing You") and most iconic (the "Every Breath You Take" video), and the 48-minute Ghost in the Machine-era documentary is interesting. But it wasn't MTV that got the Police into the Hall; it was superb musicianship and wonderful songs. And here in their digitally remastered glory, they all sound great. --Sam Graham

  • Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same [Blu-ray] [1976] Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same | Blu Ray | (03/12/2007) from £7.09  |  Saving you £17.90 (71.60%)  |  RRP £24.99

Rock's premier metalmen Led Zeppelin whose blend of gutsy blue and scathing rock catapulted them into the music world's pantheon take you on a spellbinding journey of song and imagination. This high-impact movie captures the group's legendary 1973 Madison Square Garden concert and uncorks a freewheeling mix of scenes showing group members at home and in elaborate fantasy settings. Robert Plant's raw lead vocals Jimmy Page's explosive riffery and the sonic-boom rhythm wall of bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham all swirl clash and collide - on classic tunes like Stairway to Heaven Dazed and Confused Whole Lotta Love and many others. No one goes down heavier than Zep!

  • Lemmy [DVD] Lemmy | DVD | (24/01/2011) from £5.89  |  Saving you £14.10 (70.50%)  |  RRP £19.99

In Lemmy directors Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski explore the amazing life and career of heavy metal pioneer and cultural icon Lemmy Kilmister the life force behind the enduring influential band Motorhead. Over more than four decades the drug-fueled raspy-voiced Kilmister's career has intersected with many of the touchstone moments in rock: He saw the Beatles at the Cavern Club he served as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix he mentored Sid Vicious and played in both Merseybeat and psychedelic rock bands before fusing punk and metal and thus providing the inspiration for thrash metals with Motorhead. Along the way he forever inspired the likes of Dave Grohl Slash and Metallica all of whom appear in Lemmy alongside Ozzy Osbourne Alice Copper and more.

  • Portishead - PNYC - Live At The Roseland Theatre [1998] Portishead - PNYC - Live At The Roseland Theatre | DVD | (29/04/2002) from £7.25  |  Saving you £2.74 (27.40%)  |  RRP £9.99

This famous filming of Portishead's first-ever live gig in New York--along with the accompanying album--is now considered a modern classic. The concert itself is a wonder to behold, as Portishead (Geoff Barrows, Adrian Utley, Beth Gibbons, Andy Smith) smoke cigarettes, chew gum, scratch records and behave in a generally hip manner while around them the 30-piece New York philharmonic orchestra and a five-piece horn ensemble do their thing. The performance and subsequent recording of this gig has, in some cases, offered a preferred body of work to Portishead's studio based albums, proving that live gigs do not necessarily equal poor production values. From the haunting "All Mine" to the ever-popular "Glory Box" the energy from the band members and the welcome addition of a live orchestra adds a breathtaking edge to the well-known tunes. The camera adds to the magic of the concert, sweeping majestically across the action and the audience, helping to capture the slow, silky essence of this urbanized opulence. On the DVD: As well as re-EQ'ing all of the music, the band have provided extra musical snippets, footage from their world tour (which followed this concert), an exclusive acoustic version of "Wandering Star", all of their music videos and the cultish short film they made in 1994. The "road tour" section is quite dull, shot from a car racing around provincial England (Portishead, mainly). The music videos, by and large, are more interesting and artful, particularly the video for "Only You" which is undeniably beautiful. The parting shot is their short movie "To Kill A Dead Man" (directed, shot, acted and scored by the band), which is entertaining, despite the hefty disclaimer that precedes it. All in all this is a very comprehensive overview of one of the 90s' most revered bands and a worthy purchase even for those who have the original VHS edition.--Paul Sullivan

  • Rockers Rockers | DVD | (18/08/2003) from £N/A  |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)  |  RRP £19.99

Writer-director Theodoros Bafaloukos responded to Jamaica's siren call all the way over in Greece and came to the island to make this 1977 movie about a band of Rasta men/Robin Hoods getting their own back at the expense of those perennial bloodsuckers, the "uptown top rankings", as men of money and position are called in Jamaica. The reggae star-studded cast is undoubtedly the movie's most rewarding feature, though some fans have objected to the demeaning sight of the incomparable late singer Jacob Miller threatening a friend with a knife over a purloined chicken leg or the equally great singer Gregory Isaacs exacting chump change for unlocking a tourist's rental car. However, these and other great reggae figures are also seen here in full and glorious performance at their peak. In fact, this film provides our only extended visual record of Miller's kinetic performance style and one of the best pieces of footage on Isaacs. Although Rockers doesn't approach the multi-layered complexity of The Harder They Come and it does betray a little superiority now and then to its characters, there are plenty of laughs as well as insights into life at the time for Jamaica's growing Rastafarian movement. Drummer Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace makes an unlikely though quintessentially Jamaican leading man as he moves between wooing the rich man's virginal daughter and making pit stops at the shack he shares with his wife and children. His band of accomplices is priceless, and the scene in which each struts in his own "stylee" to Peter Tosh's "Stepping Razor" is alone worth the price. --Elena Oumano

Well little did we think when The Damned recorded MGE in `79 that by public demand they would be playing vertually the whole thing again LIVE in 2004 on the 25th anniversary reissue tour! 'Etiquette' has apparently stood the test of time - still sounding pretty fresh and vibed up...mainly owing to their patent combination of punk and psychedelia that they were into at the time. The tour was great fun with the Manchester show being filmed in front of an enthusiastic audience. Tracklisting: 1. Love Song 2. Machine Gun Etiquette 3. I Just Cant Be Happy Today 4. Anti-Pope 5.
