    Shot entirely on location in the Mediterranean this series accompanies Alwyn and his wife June on their painting holiday in Mallorca. From the bustling streets of Palma to the oldest orange grove on the island from mountain villages to enchanting harbours Alwyn and June visit the undiscovered parts of the island and share the delights of this beautiful and varied part of the Mediterranean. Programme One: Villages The mountain villages of Deia and Fornalutx provide the stunning locations for this programme. Subjects drawn and painted include an old monastery a fountain and the cobbled streets and stone houses of Fornalutx. Programme Two: The Orange Grove Shot in and around the oldest orange grove on the island subjects include a meadow full of poppies a panoramic view of the grove and the mountains behind a gnarled olive tree and of course an orange. Programme Three: The Old Railway An electric railway runs between the beautiful market town of Soller and the capital Palma. Alwyn and June take the train from Palma which winds up and eventually cuts through the mountains. Built in the 1920s the station and the trains provide plenty of subjects for Alwyn and June to sketch and draw. Programme Four: Working Indoors Sometimes on holiday it suits to work indoors and in this programme Alwyn shows how to use photographs and postcards as inspiration for paintings. You don't always need paints and paper to create a picture: Alwyn sketches a lighthouse in biro on the back of a postcard. Programme Five: Palma The programme starts with a panoramic view of this beautiful old city dominated by the massive cathedral which Alwyn sketches in watercolour. Moving into the city itself Alwyn and June take a tour in a pony and trap visit the Arab baths and buy cakes from a famous shop next to the Opera House. Programme Six: Boats and Harbours Subjects include traditional fishing boats in Soller Port a fisherman mending his nets and the cliffs at sunset.

Alwyn Crawshaw visits some of the scenes and locations made famous by John Constable and paints the scenes as they are today. The beautiful locations fascinating history and the stories behind Constable's best known paintings make this series delightful to watch. Episode One: Introduction to Constable Country: Alwyn starts the programme in East Bergholt where Constable was born and sketches Constable's first studio. Then walking between East Bergholt and Flatford Alwyn sketches Fen Lane in oils near the site of Constable's inspiration for 'The Cornfield'. Finally Alwyn paints Willy Lot's cottage - the cottage Constable depicted in 'The Haywain'. Episode Two: Sketching: Constable sketched profusely and in this episode Alwyn visits the meadows around Constable Country and Dedham where Constable went to school sketching a stile a wrought iron lamp post and a distant view of Dedham Church. Episode Three: Churches: In this episode Alwyn visits three churches: Dedham Church East Bergholt and St Mary's in Stoke-by-Nayland. He tells the story of Constable's association with the Church - not always a happy one. Episode Four: Trees Meadows and Skies: Alwyn visits the site of 'The Leaping Horse' and sketches a pollarded willow and a group of ash trees. Constable made over 100 cloud studies and Alwyn does one of his own in water-colour. Episode Five: Mills and Water: The area around Flatford Mill has changed remarkably little since Constable's time. Alwyn visits the site of 'Boatbuilding' and paints a watercolour of the Mill as well as an oil sketch of a wooden rowing boat. Episode Six: Landscapes: Constable painted Dedham Mill many times but Alwyn paints a lock-keepers cottage which had not been built when Constable was alive. He also visits Stour House originally owned by friends of Constable's and paints a panoramic landscape of Dedham Vale.
