  • Sabrina [1954]Sabrina | DVD | (03/09/2001) from £3.99   |  Saving you £12.00 (300.75%)   |  RRP £15.99

Audrey Hepburn is the delightful, young, eponymous Sabrina, the daughter of a chauffeur who is hopelessly in love with David Larrabee (William Holden), the playboy younger son in the rich Long Island household her father works for. In order to help her forget her woes, Sabrina is shipped off to cooking school in Paris. While there, she befriends a baron who provides a bit of culture--and the encouragement to snip off her childlike ponytail. Upon her return to New York, Sabrina is transformed into a sophisticated woman, and David is entranced by her. However, his older brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) has arranged David's marriage to Elizabeth Tyson in order to seal a business merger and thus must steer David away from Sabrina. To do this, Linus takes on the task of wooing her for himself. Full of great dialogue ("A woman happy in love, she burns the soufflé; a woman unhappy in love, she forgets to turn on the oven") and wonderful performances, this film is a romantic masterpiece. Also enjoyable is the 1995 remake, starring Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford. --Jenny Brown

  • The Relic [1997]The Relic | DVD | (25/02/2002) from £10.33   |  Saving you £2.65 (36.10%)   |  RRP £9.99

The Relic is the story of a monster that runs amok in a Chicago museum on the very day the institution is holding a glitzy reception. Naturally, the museum bosses want to go ahead with their public relations even as the creature is decapitating victims. Penelope Ann Miller plays a scientist on the run from the critter (which is at times computer generated and reminiscent of the raptors in Jurassic Park), and Tom Sizemore is a cop looking for his cold-blooded (in every sense) killer. Peter Hyams (Timecop) directs, and as always he excels at managing the plastic action at the cost of real feeling and logic. (Much of the story is pretty laughable.) --Tom Keogh

  • Boys And Girls [2000]Boys And Girls | DVD | (13/05/2002) from £5.99   |  Saving you £10.00 (166.94%)   |  RRP £15.99

Behind the generic title of Boys and Girls lies a surprisingly enjoyable and nuanced romantic comedy. Teen heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr plays Ryan, a dorky, emotionally sincere young guy who keeps crossing paths with Jennifer (Claire Forlani), an independent and wilfully unattached young woman. Their chance meetings coincide with relationship traumas and they start to confide in each other, which leads to a more genuine friendship and, in the midst of their college years, a romance. It's a bit of a stock plot line to have their friendship threatened by sexual attraction, but Boys and Girls has just enough genuine feeling to make it compelling. Meanwhile, Jason Biggs (from American Pie) plays Ryan's roommate, a compulsive liar and would-be scam artist, who carries off some pretty funny scenes. Forlani and Prinze work together quite well. Their performances hearken back to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s, with the repressed male simultaneously attracted and horrified by a footloose dame. Some kooky moments are a little strained, but at other times the movie has a refreshing realism about human emotions. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

Universally accepted as a true icon of the 20th Century Muhammad Ali's phenomenal achievements spanned sport politics and religion. One man - photographer William Klein - had comprehensive access to the events that shaped Ali's legend. In 1964 the young outspoken Cassius Clay successfully defeated the seemingly invincible Heavyweight Champion Sonny Liston - the manner of Clay's victory and his amazing persona made him an instant superstar. Through this incredible period and Clay's subsequent rematches with Liston William Klein enjoyed unrivalled access to Clay's camp - witnessing at first hand Cassius Clay becoming Muhammad Ali and angering the American people with his allegiance to Islam. Forward to Zaire 1974 and the return of Muhammad Ali to the world stage. Having been stripped of his title and condemned by the American Government for refusing to go to Vietnam Ali arrived in his spiritual homeland to face another invincible champion George Foreman. As Ali reclaimed the crown for a second time Klein was ever present capturing the full story at close quarters. A truly remarkable piece of film history!

  • Liberty X - Just A Little [2003]Liberty X - Just A Little | DVD | (02/05/2005) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £5.99

With a puny stage set, minimalist lighting and short duration, Liberty X's Just a Little is appropriately titled. This recording of the Cardiff date from their 2003 UK tour does however include all the hits from their debut album ("Thinking it Over", "Doin' It", "Just a Little", "Got to Have Your Love" and "Holding On"), as well as two new songs from their second ("Being Nobody" and "Jumpin'"). It's a lightweight and low-budget show that might have been better padded-out with one of S Club 7's or Steps' favourite live show expanders: getting each member to perform a cover version of a favourite song. To add a bit more razzmatazz, a few more lasers and dancers wouldn't have gone amiss either. That said Tony, Jessica, Kevin, Michelle and Kelli are competent stage performers and no doubt, as their back catalogue expands and the money rolls in, they'll be able to put on future live show extravaganzas. Recognising that the live show was far from extensive, the disc also includes Liberty X's first six promos. Their videos have been always been swish, sophisticated affairs, especially the chic promo for ballad "Holding On". The futuristic video for "Being Nobody"--their alternative-pop collaboration with top underground dance producer Richard X--intelligently parodies the production-line mentality of modern culture. Overall, it's a mixed bag of material, which is likely both to please and disappoint fans. On the DVD: Just a Little may have its shortcomings as a concert DVD, but the disc's layout is excellent. Featuring an array of specially recorded material, each of the sub-menus are personally introduced by a member of the band. The Who Wants to be a Millionaire-style quiz has exclusive footage of the band up for grabs if all ten of the randomly generated questions are answered correctly, while the behind-the-scenes feature provides a unique insight into the origins and success of the band. --John Galilee
