Guinevere of Leonesse (Julia Ormond) prepares to enter the Royal Court of Camelot through marriage to its King, Arthur (Sean Connery). This union will provide protection for her country from the evil Malagant (Ben Cross), but it is also one based on true affection. However, en route to the castle, Guinevere happens upon the dashing warrior Lancelot (Richard Gere), a meeting which stirs passion in them both. Lancelot is drawn to Camelot by his desire for the Queen-to-be, where the unsuspecting King Arthur makes him a knight of the legendary Round Table, a decision which could lead to his downfall.
