Get Some In is set in 1955 when national service was compulsory. The series revolves around four men from contrasting backgrounds each of whom had received his call-up papers - Jakey Smith (Robert Lindsay) who was a reformed teddy boy; Bruce Leckie a Scot without much brain power; Ken Richardson a former grammar school pupil; and Matthew Lilley the son of a vicar and so in military mindset appropriately something of a lily-livered character.
