Drama surrounding a lonely socialite and her chauffeur who become more than friends. A recently widowed aristocrat Lady Helen Franklin (Sarah Miles), shattered by her husband's death, takes to a sanatorium to get her feet again. Upon her discharge she strikes up a hesitant and rather odd relationship with her driver Steven Ledbetter (Robert Shaw). Unsure of how to interact socially now that she's on her own, Lady Helen acts rather awkwardly around Ledbetter but the relationship becomes a steamy mutual attraction.
