If Indiana Jones and Lara Croft got together and had a child, then Benjamin Gates (played by Nicholas Cage) would be their son. If you love action, adventure and escapism with a touch reality, then this is a must see film. The story starts with young Ben Gates being mesmerised by his grandfathers stories of treasure and the old days of trying to locate the same for the good of all man. However, due to the complexity of the clues in locating the wonderous pot, Gates' family were ridiculed thru the generations. Much to his fathers protests, it is now Benjamin's turn to take up the quest and put the family name back to it's rightful place.
With an excellent storyline, superb acting and outstanding musical score, this is a film that will capture the hearts and minds of both young and old.
Monkey trousers.
no thats all,it was monkey trousers style good!!!!!!!
If you dont own this boxset, is suggest parting with your hard erned cash now. The best way to describe "fantasmorgorical" comedy is to say its Will and grace with balls (if i can say balls).
It focuses on a "disolusioned" actor, Tom Farrel, played by James Dreyfuss and linda La-hughes played by kathy burke, she ginger wears glassers thicker than pint glasses and even though her face could spoil milk her appetite for men earns her the title of black widow.
Linda really wants a man but the problem is so does Tom. He is gay and she is straight wjich is where the will and grace factor comes into it but this was pre will and grace and in this case the teacher is much funnier and less moralistic that the pupil.
Pity they never made a fourth series as the boxset leaves you wanting more of their inapropriate antics. Watchout fot episode 2 in series 2, in my opinion this is the best episode in the entire series and involves a regular character, a coffin, twins, and a very attractive spanish man.
Bring back Tom and Linda!!!!
This Hitchcock collection was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the films, and i am hoping to purchase some more. This is a must buy item for any Hitchcock fan. My favourite film was Rear Window, this is classic Hitchcock. I give this DVD collection 4stars!!
I just want to say that this movie is great. Its not my favorite movie of all time but it does keep u on the edge of your seat. The way David acts towards nicole makes you think its true love and then when you get to know someone it completely changes. This movie was good and i hope there are more like it.
I watched this movie 2 times and i thought that it was an excellent movie. Lisa Rinna and George Hamilton did a wonderful job. When i first watched this movie i cried how could a father do that to his own son and not to mention what he did to his own wife. This movie is my favorite movie that i can watch over and over and not get bored with it. The plot in this movie keeps you in suspense that you cant change tha channel. This movie deserves two thumbs up.
"About a Boy" a comedy-drama based on the Nick Hornby novel sees Hugh Grant doing what he does best, playing a commitment phobic male and self-professed Island; not quite however to the extent of the Daniel Cleaver caricature that we see in "Bridget Jones Diary."
"Will" a thirty something bachelor attends single parent meetings in order to meet women that he believes will not want a commitment from him. He gets more than he bargained for however when a date with a single mother leads to the chance meeting of a boy "Marcus"; a loner with an oddball mother played by Toni Collette ["Muriel"s Wedding" & "Sixth Sense"]. "Marcus" then proceeds to thrust himself into "Will"s" life, challenging the fundaments of "Will"s" philosophy.
What follows is a progressive change in "Will" that builds up throughout the film ultimately to self-realisation.
"About a Boy" offers some real humour and cringe-worthy moments that both warm your heart and make you reel with laughter. It has a realistic approach to the predicaments of modern life without moralizing or offering a solution, and is well worth 90 minutes out of anyone"s time.
Blade Runner is a contender for the best science fiction film ever made and should be considered as one of the best films ever made.
So much has been written about Ridley Scott's striking visual interpretation of earth in the year 2019 that it seems now almost redundant to recommend the film on this level alone. While the visuals are fantastic and outdo the computer generated effects of today, it is the philosophical questions about memory, what it is to be human etct that raise the film beyond a mere visual apprecitation. The comtemplative nature of Blade Runner is most memorably encapsulated in the final confrontation between Batty and Deckard. Batty has chased Deckard around a delapitated hotel with the intention(as far as the viewer is concerned) of killing him for Deckard's earlier eliminaiton of Batty's cohorts.
However on the roof top Batty saves Dechard's life possibly because he knows that his life span of four years is about to end and at that crucial moment he sees the value of life and consequently allows Deckard to live. This scene alone elevates Blade Runner in the sublime while Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer have never been better on screen. A serious film that rewards repeated viewing.
Italian horror director Dario Argento does not fail to please with "Tenebrae" another of his 'giallo' masterpieces.
Allegorically speaking as the title suggests, 'Tenebrae' (darkness/shadows), gives the audience an insight through the eyes of the psychopath; the clever use of the point-of-view shot from the killer"s perspective, involves the audience in the murderous assaults taking place on the screen.
"Peter Neal" an American writer goes to Italy in order to promote his new book "Tenebrae" and whilst there finds that a psychotic is murdering people (mostly attractive Italian women) and is leaving passages from his novel at the scene of the crime; thus implicating the author somehow.
The author then starts to investigate the matter himself with an interesting twist at the end. "Tenebrae" is not for the squeamish and whilst the storyline is occasionally somewhat fractured, the spectacle more than makes up for this, coupled with an excellent original score by Goblin (favoured by the director and used in a number of his films) which adds to and builds on the tension, this film will certainly satisfy your more gore hungry viewer.
If 'Batman Forever' was thin on story then 'Batman and Robin' is anorexic. 'Batman Forever' served up continuous noise from start to finish, but noise is literally all that 'Batman and Robin' has. When the effects are raging and the action's blazing the scenes are very watchable, even though many will find it the equivalent of being screamed at for a very long time. But when people stop to talk... oh dear!
Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote 'Batman Forever', came up second time round with a screenplay that ranks as utterly worthless. Quite frankly, there is nothing holding the so-called story together and the dialogue (save a sprinkling - note, sprinkling - of decent jokes) stinks. Genuine humour is spartan with a capital "spuh" - the film is chock-a-block with one-liners that just fall flat. Joel Schumacher and his Overkill Army are obviously aiming for the camp style of the legendary '60s TV show here, but the only times they succeed is when the action sequences are at their most ludicrous. When Goldsman tries to write camp dialogue it's clear he doesn't know the first thing about How To Do It. And Schumacher is equally incapable - Uma Thurman, who I rate very highly, is painful to watch. She's in pathetic panto mode throughout, but she ain't to blame. And as for Schwarzenegger...
Most Schwarzenegger roles require the erstwhile er... "actor" to simply turn up. A 'Batman' villain requires an actual actor, in other words one who can act, you know? An actor. AN ACTOR!! CHECK THE DICTIONARY!!
(pause)
Every time he opens his mouth, we cringe - it really is like watching someone in a a school play. He was paid $25 million and got top billing, and he's unwatchable - the worst thing about this whole sorry, overlong, overcrowded mess... this... this most desperate pile of bat guano. At least George Clooney got away with his dignity intact.
In 1989, Tim Burton skillfully steered Batman away from being perceived by the public as kid's stuff, however, eight years later, this bat-botch-up sent the Caped Crusader back to square one. Roll on 'Batman Begins' - Warner have (apparently) seen the light!!
From start to finish, L" Appartement keeps you enthralled with its emotional and intellectual twists and turns.
Without wanting to give any of the plots away as it would spoil the films mind blowing climax, 'Max' overhears the telephone conversation of an old flame whilst in a café, but when he goes to approach her she has already gone. Worrying about what he overheard her saying and also feeling that he must find her in order to establish what went wrong in the relationship he is taken on a journey that duly leads to intrigue and murder.
You find yourself embroiled in the intrigue, all the while urging 'Max' on; this is mostly due to the cleverly constructed flashbacks of his time with "Lisa" the love of his life.
I originally saw it about 5 years ago and was completely blown away by it, its intellect is truly outstanding, this is a must see for intelligent viewers who seek more from a film than the run of the mill.
These dvds are as good as the ufo ones, that is all i can say, nothing else. They are brilliant!
Non-stop spoof 007 movie, with truly amazing special effects. Arnie's acting is as bad as ever, but the storyline moves it along at a fast pace. The last hour is frenetic, with superb Harrier jump jet sequences which simply have to be seen to be believed. The bridge sequence is another hot spot with again unbelievable effects. Some very funny sections throughout, and Jamie Lee Curtis's 'prostitute spy' scene in the bedroom certainly turned my head ! Overall, an excellent fun family movie (the violence is well tamed) - rating:
Storyline: 8/10
Effects : 10/10
Acting : 6/10
Humour : 7/10
Overall : 8/10
The end of an era. After 2 yrs on from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Came Angel the Series. I own all 5 seasons of this, and I can't decide which is my favorite.
This season had its ups down. The gang moved into Wolfram and Hart, all got jobs in their "specialty". Wes: Books, Fred: Science, Lorne: Entertainment, and Gunn: got his brain upgraded to big time lawyer. We also see the shocking return of Spike at the end of the first episode "Conviction".
Near the end of the season, we saw Fred get infected with the "spirit" Illyria, which eventually took over her body leaving Fred for dead in episode: "A Hole in the World".
Cordy comes back for one episode: "You're Welcome" the 100th episode of the series. She later dies but not before giving Angel some helpful information.
There is a light hearted episode "Smile Time" where we see Angel turned into a Puppet for an episode, it was gr8 to see him that way, and how the other characters interacted with him (and how the reacted when they 1st saw him in puppet form!) We even got to see him "vamp out" puppet style!
In the final episode we see the return of Connor as he helps Angel defeat Hamilton. We see the gang assigned to kill off members of the "The Circle of the Black Thorn". Lindsey is back to assist with this, but is then shockingly shot and killed by Lorne! Wesley is killed in his battle against Cyvvus Vail, and as he dies Illyria turns into Fred and holds him close to her - very emotional scene, as was the scene in which Fred died.
All in all, this was a fantastic show, and Season 5 just added to its greatness, it's a pity it had to end.
Rating: 5 stars!
Fave episodes: "Your Welcome", "Smile Time", "A Hole in the World" and "Not Fade Away"
The Doctor is BACK!! Christopher Eccleson is the 9th doctor with Billie Piper as his sidekick. This series sets more action packed adventures for the doctor and the three episodes featured on this DVD sees Rose meeting the Doctor for the first time and saving London from Alive Plastic, The End of the world in the year 5 billion and going back in time see Charles Dickens who helps the Doctor and Rose escape from Lost souls.
Altogether, this is a DVD which the Doctor Who fan has been waiting for and even those who have not previously enjoyed Doctor Who, I think that opinion will change with this series. Fantastic!
This DVD is excellent. Jennifer Garner acts out Sydney very real. She shows real emotion and makes the character seem very real. The whole show gives a feeling of real life especially when Sydney sees something very upseting its makes you fell just like her. The guest stars are also a plus, Ricky Gervais played the US terrorist very well. His character was a lot more serious than his usual character in The Office, this just shows what a good actor he is to show to completly different comparasions of characters. The diectors and actors have done a very good job on this season, well done!
24 is quite simply the greatest show ever conceived and after the wonderful 1st series there was a lot of hype over the 2nd, and many believed it could not live up to its own reputation. But they were wrong. Season two is just as original, griping and full of unexpected twists as the first.
The show is beautifully acted by the entire cast especially Kiefer Sutherland and Dennis Haysbert, who play their parts extremely convincingly and lead the viewer to believe that they are caught in the complicated web of their existence for [close to] 24 hours of your life.
As well as being acted perfectly, the show is directed in such a way that all of the intricate story lines occurring during the "day" fit together so cleanly that you cannot help but be engrossed in the epic tale that is 24...
"And today, is the longest day of my life..."
brilliant ,different to anything youve seen before and puts most other comedies in the shade.
Three Classic Horrors of the Silver Screen Volume. 2
This trio of black and white horrors is worth the price alone for the original House on Haunted Hill but also for your money you will get A Bucket of Blood and The Ghoul. Taking into account that this disc is around a fiver (£5) and the limitation of disc space you really should not expect any extras not even chapter selection.
Director Roger Cormans", A Bucket of Blood (1960) is the weakest of the three being more cult than classic. Roger Miller takes the lead as dim-witted bus boy in a café patronised by artist whom he dreams to be one amongst. After an accident in which unintentionally kills his neighbours cat and proceeds to cover it in clay he is pronounced an artist of genius. This inevitable leads to him killing humans with the same intention. A predictable final ensues
House on Haunted (1958) is the strongest of the collection. Vincent Price is terrific form as the mysterious millionaire host of a party to whom he has invited a group of people who are strangers to each other. There are certainly some good tense and shocking moment for those who like to be spooked. A horror film with satisfactory conclusion.
The Ghoul (1933) is a horror from a different period and reasonably it should be viewed with that in mind. Boris Karloff is an Egyptologist whom tries to evade his impending death with the aid of a precious Egyptian artefact which he has purchased illegally. When he is pronounced dead two of his relatives and their friend, his man servant, his lawyer and an uninvited Egyptian guest arrive at his home. Amongst the infighting of these arrivals the Ghoul returns from his tomb to reek havoc in search of the artefact which has been taken from him. Not very shocking today it is still quite entertaining especially if you are a fan films such as Van Hellsing.
After some of the press criticism and the fact that The Alamo did not do too well at the box office, I was pleasantly surprised that it was such a good film. The story is carefully crafted, with events slowly leading up to the climactic battle in which William Travis and Jim Bowie perish, while Davy Crockett is captured alive. I was prepared for his death scene to annoy me as I had read about hime "begging for his life". Instead, I found a feisty Billy Bob Thornton challenging Santa Anna and his huge army to lay down their guns and surrender!
This version of The Alamo builds its narrative up well and the main characters are carefully developed. The arrival of Santa Anna's army and the subsequent wait for the attack provides some intense tension, interrupted briefly by minor skirmishes. The disappointment of the defenders when only 30 men arrive as relief is palpable, but they stoically remain at their posts. The climactic battle is excitingly filmed, but as it is at night some of the scenes are difficult to comprehend fully, which is a shame. This film also depicts the aftermath where Sam Houston, creditably played by Dennis Quaid, defeats Santa Anna. The aerial crane shots of this battle are breathtaking.
Another plus is the strong acting by the minor characters, while Santa Anna himself is played with great relish as a grandiose "Napoleon" pretender.
