This raunchy screwball comedy directed with madcap zest by John Landis (The Blues Brothers An American Werewolf In London) offers a relentless spoof of 1960s college life by following the hilarious adventures of the Delta fraternity. There's nothing this motley collection of students won't do to get the best of Dean Wormer who secretly conspires to revoke Delta's charter. In addition to Belushi as the guitar bashing beer can smashing garbage eating Bluto Blutarsky the outstanding cast includes head skirt-chaser Tim Matheson innocent freshman Tom Hulce and Stephen ""Flounder"" Furst along with Otis Day and the Knights with their showstopping performance of 'Shout'. Toga! Toga! Toga! The Blues Brothers (1980): They'll never get caught. They're on a mission from God. A bawdy, ultimately moral tale of hedonism's complications, Is Harry on the Boat? is probably the most memorable film to come out of the culture of young singles' holidays on Ibiza. Tour rep Brad (Danny Dyer) is determined to win the informal competition among the male reps to sleep with as many female clients as possible, while his friend Mikey (Des Coleman) is looking for true love. Brad gradually learns responsibility and human concern from the awful examples set by corrupt manageress Alison and self-serving treacherous super-stud Mario. Along the way we get some memorably gross-jokes and one or two moments of rather touching tenderness, as well as a convincing portrait of what people go to Ibiza for--loud, large times of music and drunken excess. Dyer is convincing as a young man who learns better from experience and Des Coleman makes Mikey a three-dimensional, soulful romantic with a wicked sense of humour rather than merely Good personified. --Roz Kaveney

  • The 'burbs [Blu-ray]The 'burbs | Blu Ray | (18/05/2015) from £N/A   |  Saving you £N/A (N/A%)   |  RRP £19.99

Tom Hanks stars in The 'Burbs, a sporadically funny extended sketch piece about a gaggle of suburban neighbours so preoccupied with mysteries taking place behind the closed doors of a newcomer that they go to extremes to look inside. The film is essentially a simple satire from director Joe Dante, for whom suburbia has been ripe territory for such comic-horror stories as Gremlins, Explorers, Matinee and Small Soldiers. Of all Dante's movies, The 'Burbs has the least story material to go around, and it depends heavily (and with modest success) on the comic powers of its cast--including Bruce Dern as a paranoid nut, Hanks as a Mr Normal type who loses perspective, and Rick Ducommun as Hanks' neurotic best friend. These appealing people hold one's attention, but by the end of the film, with nothing much having happened, even the cast can't mitigate an empty feeling. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com
